Tubes

PREAMP TUBES

All tubes are tested for noise and microphonics

ECC83 (12AX7)

$75

Set of three (3) JJ ECC83S short plate spiral filament design with an inherently low noise flow and resistance to mechanical noise and microphonics. This makes them ideal for combo applications and high gain stages.

ECC803S (Long Plate 12AX7)

$30

Thick mids and a little more high end than the ECC83S, making them ideal anywhere a slight mid push and added chime is desirable. Great in input stages or in all positions in vintage amps.  We used them with current Balanced triodes for phase inverter use.

E83CC (12AX7)

$36

A Frame Grid style High quality, low noise replacement for any 12AX7 type tube.  We use these in the first preamp position, usually V1.

Power tubes

All power tubes are tested for noise and matched at multiple operating points for plate current (± one milliamp) and transconductance. 24-hour burn im.

6V6S Double Mica

$62

The classic 6V6 traits with a tighter low-end response and very smooth but punchy overdriven tones, and can be used in applications up to 500VDC on the plates.  Dramatically reduced susceptibility to mechanical noise (tube rattle) in combo amplifiers.

6L6GC Double Mica

$69

The lows are deep, big and round. The mids are very harmonically rich and natural while the highs are thick, creamy and very detailed. This tube has a tight and muscular response.   The Double Mica offers radically reduced susceptibility to mechanical noise (tube rattle) in combo amplifiers.

5881

$64

The JJ 5881 is a classic 23-watt stubby bottle 6L6 variant. We use these in applications up to 500VDC on the plates which means they can be used in almost any 6L6 application.   The breakup is earlier than a 6L6 and very smooth in transition.  They have “jangle” for days! We LOVE these tubes!  A wonderful option for any 6L6 amp or classic 5881 design.

Speakers

Jensen

Texas Tone is an OEM for Jensen speaker

C12Q 12" 35W 8Ω

$80

Following the heritage of the P12Q, the C12Q is one of the most versatile speakers in the Vintage range.  Powerful enough for a cranked Deluxe-style amp yet balanced and warm, it surely is not lacking in bite.  It has been used in both single and twin configurations by countless manufacturers including Texas Tone®, Fender®, Ampeg®, Silvertone® and Supro®, just to name a few.  Standard on the Texas Tone Tweed

C12N 12" 50W 8Ω

$105

The C12N is one of the most important speakers in Jensen’s history. It is the top 12” speaker of the ‘Blackface Era, used by many American manufacturers in the mid ‘60s for their upper range models when the price of Alnico became unsustainable for the manufacturers.  Clear highs, solid mids, and powerful basses, it epitomizes the tone of that decade, from the surf, the rock n’ roll, the electric blues and the West Coast inspired music. Used in Twin, Bassman and Bandmaster style amps, and others.

P10R, 10" 25W 8Ω

$120

The P10R is very important in the history of Jensen speakers. Its shimmering, yet throaty and vibrant tone is one of the signatures of the Tweed era and inspired the start-up of the British tones.  The P10R is the speaker that contributed to the magical tone of the 4x10 Bassman® Tweed amps, the 4x10 Super Tweed Amps and the equally mythical 3x10 Bandmaster® amps.  Featured on the Texas Tone Crown Prince.

Armadillo Tone Tube Boost by Texas Tone

Tube Boost

Armadillo Tone™ Tube Preamp/Boost, a tube preamp/boost pedal is designed to give added flexibility to the live or recording guitarist. The tube preamp in this pedal will provide a controlled amount of boost to your guitars signal, providing either internal overdrive of the tube, by overdriving your amp's preamp stage, or both.

 Gain - Tone - Volume

The Gain knob controls the voltage gain of the input stage of the built-in preamp tube, rendering 10-24dB of gain using the included Mil-Spec 6189/12AU7 tube, or up to 34dB of gain using a 12AT7. More gain is not necessarily better. I gig with the 12AU7, and it rightly fattens the tone of my Telecaster. A 12AX7 is not recommended.

The wide range Tone control greatly enhances the Armadillo preamp's flexibility. Roll it back to the 8 O’clock position for a rich "woman tone", or run it up to 4 O’clock for a searing treble boost.

The Volume knob controls the output signal level. In this way, you can use the Gain and Tone controls to dial in the gain, distortion, and frequency response of the Armadillo Tone™ preamp, and then use the Volume knob to control the output level of the preamp. This also allows you to overload your amp's input stage, generating even more preamp distortion if that's what you desire.

One of my favorite settings with a Fender guitar is to run the Tone control at around the 11 O’clock position, and the Gain and Volume at around 2 or 3 O’clock. This gives only a slight volume boost but significantly thickens the tone. The settings you use depend on the capabilities and frequency response of your guitar and amp.

The Armadillo Tone™ includes a diode/capacitor filter circuit and is designed to run on external 12VDC negative tip power. The power supply (wall wart) is included. The input jack serves as the on/off switch for the pedal so that whenever a guitar cord is plugged into the input jack, and the 12V DC power is applied, the tube's heating element is on. This ensures that the tube is warmed up whenever the foot pedal is switched out of "Bypass" mode and into the "On" mode. In the true bypass mode, the guitar signal completely bypasses the tube and power supply, and the tube circuit input is grounded. When the footswitch is "on", the LED indicates that the tube circuitry is active, and the effect is on.

The Armadillo Tone tube preamp is just that, a highly flexible tube preamp that you can use to further enhance your tonal palette. Try it; you just might end up using it all the time.

Price: $225.00 Includes 12VDC/1.6A power supply, a NOS Mil-Spec 6189/12AU7 tube, plus $15 shipping and any applicable sales tax.

Kick Box Clean Boost by Texas Tone

Do you ever need to boost your guitar's output signal without resorting to a distortion or fuzz box? Maybe you just want to get your signal cleanly through a pedal chain. Perhaps you just want to boost the signal a little for a lead part, or to be heard above a drummer and bassist. Or you might want to play a softer tone without the volume loss usually associated with such tones.

The Kick Box™ clean boost pedal uses a low-noise Op-Amp and a low-noise transistor to create a clean, transparent signal boost. This gives you a high input impedance and a low output impedance to drive a pedal array or amplifier input.

A Boost control allows you to control the output level of the Kick Box. Turned up, it can overdrive your guitar amp's input giving you a little, or a lot, of distortion and/or volume at the press of a footswitch, without resorting to mega-metal distortion. When run at a moderate setting, it can provide that little bit of boost you need to drive your signal through an array of pedals, for a lead part boost, or to compensate for rolling off your guitar's tone control.

Customer Comment:

"The cleanest boost I’ve ever used. Much clearer than a JFET and it boosts all frequencies evenly. Throw it in front of an amp and use it as a clean boost or a super fuzz when cranked. The low end is very intense so be prepared or use a bass cut if it’s not your style. The battery option is sick as well so you can just throw it on the floor and jam. Highly recommended for a clean boost."

Info

If you have an amp that sounds great cranked but it's too loud for some songs, the set up your amp for the desired amount of volume and distortion for your lead parts, pushing the amp deep into that "sweet spot". Then, engage the Kick Box™ and turn the Boost level down to reduce the guitar's signal level, and enjoy a quieter, cleaner tone at the press of a button for those ballads or quieter songs.

However you use it, the Kick Box™ is a small, versatile tool in the electric guitarist's sonic palette. I've been using it for several years in clubs and coffee houses, either to give my signal a boost for searing blues leads, or for when I roll the volume and tone levels down on the guitar for a soft, sweet sound, but still need to be heard in the band's mix.
